This is loosely a sequel to A Casual Weekend Thing and what struck me was AJ. Thomas gave each book a different voice. Hayes and Ray Delgado's stories are about different men with different battles to fight. That alone makes me a lifetime fan of AJ Thomas. Ray Delgado is related to the mob but he is in no way a part of the mob. He is a cop, he's his own man, he is a womanizer and a manizer too. But he's met his match in Elliott Belkamp, FBI. While on the hunt for a missing niece Elliot and Ray try to navigate friendship, job, responsibility, fears, joys, and everything else together.
