On my periodic exploration of the classics, I chose Being There on a whim. Not knowing what to expect I was a happily surprised by this lovely, elegantly written short story about a man who was everything to all people without being anything at all. At least that's what I got from it. I felt Being There earnestly encapsulates the popular political thinking of the 1970s. Being There's satiric ideas still stands up and maybe in today's modern political climate is even more timely and weighty than ever.
