This is when I want to be a better writer so I relay exactly how I feel about Harper Fox's writing. I feel there are very few writers who can capture pain and loneliness like Fox. She doesn't use over the top plot devices for the sake of drama. Her characters are regular dudes who've lost the ground from under their feet in the most everyday way. Matt's heart and soul are crushed and he is caught in a self-destructive loop. Enter Arron who is just what Matt needed. I wanted to slap more than a few people for the way they treated Matt. I wanted him protected from more pain. Their dance was danced was intricate. The love making was really beautiful after how ugly the sex had been before they came together. The colloquialisms are heavy and can be confusing but they give Life After Joe a rich, authentic quality.
