Evil Spirits Everywhere

Song of Oestend - Marie Sexton

First and foremost I enjoy Marie Sexton's writing, so I bought this just because I saw her name. I knew nothing about it in advance. If you asked me now to explain it I would tell you I have no idea how to do that. Okay, okay here is a shot.  It's a fantasy, romance, western, whew. The story starts with us meeting Aren, who is relocating because of a messy turn ugly relationship. He's an interesting complex character second only to Deacon who's even more complex. The setting is a ranch with animals that are a bit surreal. There are evil deadly creatures that we never actually see but are feared throughout the story. But of course the true pain is caused by humans. I liked it. I really, really liked it. I was intrigued and I never got bored. Sexton has a habit of not shortchanging the reader by rushing the ending, she lets it happen. Yahoo.
