When you look at the list of the 20 best short stories ever written, Shirley
Jackson's The Lottery is on most lists. My goal this year is to read all of the great short story ever written. By the way I detest short stories. I get it…this story was well done. Jackson skirted between haunting and simple storytelling at the same time. I've always found Jackson's writing overdone and too dry for me but this time she hits me with pure brilliance. Keep in mind this it's just my opinion. I'm glad it's being reintroduced in small book form because this is something everyone should have to read like it or not.
